A good friend forwarded this to me today. Given the state of our present world economy, and the attempts to repair it, I found this to be very compelling, and wanted to share it with my readers.

Although this quote is sometimes wrongly attributed to Abraham Lincoln, it actually came from a pamphlet entitled “The Ten Cannots” which was first published in 1916 by William J. H. Boetcker (1873-1962). It was written 92 years ago, but its wisdom is more relevant than ever. As you read through it, I urge you to think about your own personal economy and values, not just the obvious world political scene…

1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
2. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
3. You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
4. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
5. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
6. You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
7. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
8. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
9. You cannot build character and courage by destroying men’s initiative and independence.
10. And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.

What do you think?

TweetCamp San Antonio Jam Band

Posted by: Shecky | Comments (1)

Yesterday, I attended my very first TweetCamp. If you don’t know what that is, don’t worry…I didn’t either until recently. TweetCamp is a place for Twitter users to get together and share ideas. Yeah, I know….it sounds about as nerdy as band camp, right?

The format is that of an “UnConference.” Again, I was not familiar with this, but here’s how it works. At the beginning of the day, everybody posts a lists of topics that they would like covered. From there, those topics are scheduled into time slots. People that are experts in those topics then volunteer to present information and teach the other attendees about these topics.

It turned out to be a GREAT day. I took a lot of notes, and got a TON of great information. I reconnected with some people that I had previously met through our Internet Marketing group (MIMOSA), but I also connected with a lot of other great people, who are very active in social media. People came from all over the of Texas, and as you know, it’s a big state!

Because of my use of some advanced Twitter software, I was aksed to present in the “Killer Apps” time slot. It was filmed, and I will eventually release that as a separate training video, as soon as its available.

At the end of a fun and educational day, some of us got together at Alan Weinkrantz’s house, to create the WORLD’s FIRST TweetCamp Jam Band….and it was right here in San Antonio. We had a lot of fun….here’s a quick video of some of the shenanigans.

This was a great ending to a great day. San Antonio has a very active and cohesive Social Media community. We’re all looking forward to the next event with great anticipation!
